Trowulan Museum

One of Trowulan's central attractions is the new Archaeological Museum, to be found on the western side of the kolam segaran. Officially opened in 1987, it was built for the purpose of displaying and preserving the ever increasing number of historical treasures discovered in the vicinity of the old Majapahit capital. Covering a spacious area of some 57,625 square metres, this new site accommodates the collection of the old Trowulan Museum, as well as the bulk of the stone sculpture which used to be housed in the museum of Mojokerto. Among the objects on display, a few deserve special mention, notably the famous portrait statue of Airlangga as Wishnu on Garuda, from Candi Belahan; a winged figure which is said to portray the legendary king of Blambangan, Menak Jinggo; and a part of a temple from Ampelgading, Malang, displaying the story of Samodramanthana in finely carved relief.

Location

The museum is located in the hamlet village Trowulan Trowulan Trowulan Mojokerto district. Can be achieved using any type of transportation through highway Trowulan.
The museum was founded by Duke Ario Kanjeng Kromojoyo with Ir. Henry Maclaine Pont in 1942 with the aim to accommodate the research kasil archaeological artifacts around Trowulan.
Currently, the museum is also known as the Statue Rescue Center has a collection of various findings in the area of East Java. The objects in this collection has been completed with a brief description in two languages, Indonesian and English.
Museum space is divided into two parts:

  1. Exhibition space, used to exhibit relatively small-sized artifacts. For example: currency, inscriptions, music instruments, peralataan households, and weapons.
  2. Pavilion, used as a place to display artifacts relative size and weight are still as statues, reliefs, kala, yoni, and others.

Ticket prices vary for any visitor. Visitors visitors of children, students, and students are charged a fee of Rp 1,000, while for the general charge of Rp 2500. And specifically for foreign tourists charged Rp 5.000.Fasilitas other available are small mosque, park, library, souvenir shops and stalls or the cafeteria.


History Museum Trowulan


Trowulan Museum was opened in 1926 with the aim to store and display objects of research results Oudheidkundige Vereeneging Majapahit (OVM). OVM is an association founded by the regent of Mojokerto, Duke Kanjeng Aria archaeologist Kramadjaja Adinegara with Dutch Henry Maclaine Pont in 1924.
This society was quite successful uncover the diversity of Majapahit legacy. Both of the excavation, survey and discovery of society. These objects were collected in the office OVM. Because the number continues to rise, then in 1926 by the regents dibangunkanlah six other buildings to accommodate the amount of this heritage with traditional style buildings arstitektur. This place was then known to the public with the name Trowulan Museum opened to the public. In 1942, when the Japanese invaded Indonesia, the museum was closed because Maclaine Pont was captured by the Japanese.
In 1987 the Museum moved into the building Trowulan about 2 km south of the old place with a Rescue Center of Ancient Things then changed again into Rescue Center Arca (CPA). Collections in this museum increasing, due in 1999 have added a collection of image building in exchange Mojokerto bolster the building by Mojokerto regency. As of January 1, 2008, finally established as the Museum Trowulan Majapahit Information Center.




Special Collections


Museum Trowulan is a special museum for 80% collection of this museum is the legacy of Majapahit era. Very interesting to visit this place, because in this museum there are reliefs and statues depicting the activities of trade with Chinese merchants. Museum visitors can also see the collection of money kepeng and clay marbles from Majapahit era.
Also found here are also many statues and inscriptions which are collected from various parts of the historic, because it's main function is to save the museum Trowulan things ancient, especially the artifacts and statues. In this museum, there are about 80 thousand collections of archaeological objects,
from prehistoric period, the classical period (the time of Hindu and Buddhist), the Islamic period, until the colonial period.
One of the statues are of interest to visitors is the statue of Vishnu riding Garuda. Statue made in the Kediri kingdom is believed to be the incarnation of King Airlangga. This image is also saved a lot of stories ranging from Mount Penanggungan arrive at the Garuda, the bird figure human body.
